The KEN Jewish Community Closes Out End of Year Philanthropy

KEN Good Deeds day

With the end of the year approaching, the KEN Jewish Community, a Finest Community Coalition member and a pillar of the Latin Jewish community in San Diego, culminated their year’s philanthropic efforts. The KEN organized numerous events in the last several months of the year, most notably the annual Good Deeds Day on November 1st.

The KEN describes Good Deeds Day as an annual tradition of doing good deeds by volunteering and helping others in the local community or those beyond the city, county, or state. Good Deeds Day is contingent upon the belief that any person can do something good, big or small, that can improve the lives of others and thus positively change the world.

Good Deeds Day is an international initiative that first began in Israel in 2007 by Shari Arison and the volunteer organization Ruach Tova. Today, there are over 108 countries that have organizations directly participating in Good Deeds Day, which is typically held in March or April.

At the KEN, who have been celebrating the good deeds tradition since 2014, they celebrate by creating a whole day of giving in November. The KEN organizes more than 250 children that work to benefit and assist local non-profit organizations in San Diego and across the border in Tijuana.

Good Deeds Day largely closes out the KEN’s yearly Hands On Giving Calendar and provides their participating young people, and their volunteering families, an opportunity to work together, benefit more than 15 non-profit organizations, and inspire positive energy and make a difference.

What is the KEN?

The KEN Jewish Community is a nonprofit organization where Latin Jewish Families share beliefs and traditions rooted in both the Jewish and Latin communities and traditions. Through a wide range of educational, social, performing arts, and sports programs and activities, its community strengthens their Jewish identity, build a connection with Israel, and maintain their culture.
