About Jewish Federation of San Diego
Our Mission
Jewish Federation of San Diego is the central address for collective Jewish responsibility in our community. We raise and allocate funds, advocate on behalf of Jewish needs locally and globally, and build a stronger, more connected community.
We are guided by the Jewish values of tzedakah (justice and charity), tikkun olam (repairing the world), and kehillah (community). Our work ensures that every Jew who needs help can find it, and that Jewish life in San Diego remains vibrant for generations to come.
Our History
90 years of building Jewish community in San Diego.
One Community, One Voice
As danger gathers in Europe, Judge Jacob Weinberger unites 2,000 Jews across every synagogue and faction to found the United Jewish Fund.
A State Is Born
As Israel is born, the United Jewish Fund leads San Diego in mobilizing for survivor resettlement and the new state.
The Central Address
The United Jewish Fund merges with the San Diego Federation of Jewish Agencies to form the United Jewish Federation, uniting fundraising, planning, and agency support in a single organization for the first time.
A Partnership for the Ages
San Diego and Sha'ar HaNegev become partners, beginning with the Ibim student village, home to young immigrants from the former Soviet Union, Ethiopia, and around the world.
From Fund to Convener
United Jewish Federation becomes Jewish Federation of San Diego, aligning with a Federation system rebranding nationally and signaling a shift from fund distributor to community convener.
Board Leadership
Our volunteer board of directors guides Federation's strategic direction and ensures fiduciary responsibility.
