Welcome to the Janaury 2026 edition of “Points of Pride,” an inside look at Jewish Federation of San Diego’s latest accomplishments and initiatives made possible by your support. From community-building efforts to impactful programs, these highlights reflect the power of our collective contributions.

Investing in Leadership: FCC Director Selected for JFNA Accelerator

We are excited to share that Adam Maslia, Director of the Finest Community Coalition, was selected for Jewish Federation of North America’s Executive Accelerator Cohort III, a prestigious national program investing in top Federation professionals.

As one of just 22 participants, Adam will engage in advanced leadership training, peer learning, and strategic development designed to prepare him for growing responsibility and impact. His participation reflects both his leadership and our Federation’s continued investment in strengthening professional excellence across our community.

Brunch Club: Strong Women, Stronger Community

More than 90 women gathered for the December Women’s Philanthropy Brunch Club, a dynamic morning focused on leadership, preparedness, and community security.

Participants heard from former San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman and Jewish Federation of San Diego Community Security Director Bill Ganley, who shared real-world insights on crisis response, decision-making, and preparedness in uncertain moments, followed by hands-on Stop the Bleed training that equipped attendees with practical, lifesaving skills. Together, the experience reinforced the power of informed leadership and collective responsibility.

Inside Jewish Argentina: A Global Perspective on Jewish Life

This  winter, 12 young adults from San Diego traveled to Buenos Aires through an immersive partnership with JDC Entwine, experiencing Jewish life through visits to schools, synagogues, and community centers.

Through meaningful conversations about Jewish identity, peoplehood, and global responsibility, participants gained insight into how Jewish communities around the world adapt, support one another, and endure across generations. The experience offered a powerful reminder of our shared responsibility to Jewish communities everywhere.

Big Moments Ahead: Community Engagement Continues to Grow

Excitement continues to build across our community with the launch of two major initiatives creating opportunities for connection and shared experience. FED360: All In has already surpassed 700 registrants ahead of the February 7 gathering at the Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center, and will feature Ziv and Gali Berman in their first public appearance, sharing a powerful story of survival, resilience, and brotherhood.

At the same time, interest in The Community Trip to Israel taking place in May 2027 is strong, with more than 180 individuals joining the interest list before registration has opened, signaling deep enthusiasm for global engagement. Click here to learn more and get involved.

ShinShinim Update: Building Connection Through Storytelling

For the past several months, Federation has featured a ShinShin of the Month across our social platforms, and the response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive.

By sharing personal stories, reflections, and everyday moments, our ShinShinim have helped community members feel more personally connected to the young Israeli emissaries living and working in San Diego. These authentic glimpses into their lives continue to drive meaningful engagement and strengthen people-to-people connections.

Follow along on Instagram and Facebook to meet our ShinShinim and see each month’s feature.

Global Ambassador Program Applications Now Open

Applications are now open for Federation’s Global Ambassador Program (GAP) for Summer 2026, a subsidized international travel experience that will take San Diego teens to Budapest, Hungary.

Participants will explore Jewish history, culture, and contemporary Jewish life while building meaningful relationships with local teens and gaining a broader global perspective. GAP is open to students entering 11th or 12th grade in Fall 2026, and families are invited to attend a virtual information session on Wednesday, January 28 at 7PM.

Israel Unfiltered 2026: An Immersive Summer Experience for Teens

Registration is also now open for Israel Unfiltered 2026, Federation’s three-week immersive summer experience for Jewish high school students across San Diego County.

Taking place June 15–July 6, 2026, the program offers teens the opportunity to explore Israel through hands-on experiences, meaningful dialogue, and direct engagement with the people and places that shape Israeli society today. Designed to spark curiosity, confidence, and lasting Jewish identity, Israel Unfiltered helps teens build a deeper, more personal connection to Israel while forming lifelong friendships.
