Creating a Resilient & Secure Community

We are at a turning point. It is imperative that the lessons of the Holocaust are not relegated to the past but acted upon today to cultivate a culture of awareness and empathy. This urgency is matched by our Federation’s largest-ever received donation, funding the launch of the Legacy of Light Goldberg Institute for Holocaust Education. The Goldberg Institute’s flagship, a state-of-the-art mobile museum, Spark Interactive, will bring modern Holocaust education to learners of all ages and backgrounds across San Diego County.

We are witnessing an unsettling increase in antisemitic incidents and violence, both locally and across the nation. From Washington D.C. to Boulder to San Diego, it is clear that the stakes are monumental when antisemitism is left unchecked and allowed to fester.

But we are taking action. We have joined The Finest Community Coalition as a founding member, and we are expanding Jewish engagement with the wider San Diego community.

Our programs and partnerships promote advocacy, education, and community outreach as we unite to resist rising antisemitism. We must continue to do all we can to stem the terrible tide and build a stronger and resilient community.

Federation has made significant investments to ensure Jewish institutions throughout San Diego remain safe havens for worship, education, and community activities. Working closely with Jewish institutional leadership, we provide free trainings and security assessments, ongoing communication on best practices, consultation on government grant applications, general security related advice, and more. All of Federation’s community safety and security work is designed to equip the Jewish community with the tools needed to prepare for, and respond to, arising security challenges.

Teen stress, depression, and anxiety levels are all on the rise. What role can the Jewish community play to ensure our youth develop the resilience and grit needed to face these challenges and embrace their Jewish identity?
