Today, Jewish Federation of San Diego hosted a security roundtable meeting at the San Diego Police Department headquarters. Numerous Jewish leaders and security professionals attended and heard from numerous experts in safety and cybersecurity. Among the attendees were congregational and Jewish community leaders from across San Diego County, as well as the facilitators Matt Goldberg and Bill Ganley, the Director of Caring and Community Relations and the Community Security Director at Federation, respectively.

The roundtable began with a special presentation by an FBI San Diego special agent from the cybersecurity department. The special agent highlighted Internet threats to Jewish organizations and how to counter and disrupt online malicious actors and acts of antisemitism on the Internet. Most notably, the agent meticulously covered Internet scams, phishing attempts, and hacktivism, including their typical origin points, and how to effectively prevent these events.

After hearing from the FBI agent, the participants were greeted by the San Diego Police Department Community Relations Officers, and San Diego County Sheriff’s Office (SDCSO) Community Policing and Problem-Solving Deputies. Also introduced was a detective from the Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU). The Jewish leaders were able to speak with each of the officers afterwards in an open Q&A style, before later breaking up and connecting one-on-one.
