Federation Statement Following Attack at Islamic Center of San Diego

05/18/2026

Jewish Federation of San Diego is heartbroken by the devastating attack today at Islamic Center of San Diego.

According to the latest confirmed information provided by San Diego Police Department, three adult victims were killed in the attack, including a security guard. Law enforcement has also confirmed that both suspects are deceased and that there is no further threat to the community at this time. No children were injured in the incident.

At this time, SDPD and the FBI are investigating this attack as a possible hate crime until that determination can be ruled out.

Violence against any house of worship is intolerable. Every person deserves to gather in prayer, community, and peace without fear for their safety. This awful and horrifying act of violence has shaken communities across San Diego and struck at the core of our shared humanity and values.

We are grateful to the law enforcement officers, first responders, security personnel, and civic leaders who responded swiftly and courageously throughout the day. The City of San Diego has also confirmed that there will be increased patrols and security presence at religious institutions across San Diego in the coming days.

Federation remains in close communication with local law enforcement, security partners, and interfaith leaders. We stand with the Islamic Center of San Diego and against this act of violence and hatred of all kinds.

Our prayers are with San Diego’s Muslim community as they grieve, heal, and navigate the difficult days ahead. May the memories of those lost be a blessing, and may all those impacted find comfort, healing, and strength.
