Update on May 18 Situation: Emergency Concluded

Jewish Federation of San Diego has been informed that the critical incident that prompted lockdown procedures at several religious institutions across the area, including our building, has concluded.

While we are still learning additional details and awaiting confirmed information from law enforcement, we can confirm that other nearby Jewish institutions were not impacted by the incident. The City of San Diego has also confirmed that there will be added patrols at all religious institutions in the coming days.

This was an awful and deeply disturbing attack. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those at the Islamic Center harmed in this terrible attack, as well as all others who were injured, impacted, or traumatized by today’s events, including their families and loved ones. We are grateful to the law enforcement officers, first responders, and security personnel who acted swiftly to protect lives and bring the situation to an end.

Federation will continue to remain in communication with community security partners and local authorities as more information becomes available.
