Hello Hikers!

For this excursion, we will be taking on Cuyamaca Peak, the second highest peak in all of San Diego County! At 6,512 feet in elevation, one gets a fabulous view of the county in an almost 360 degree view. The paved fire road trail may seem like an easy trip, but it is three miles of elevation gain and three miles of elevation loss, so be sure to hit the gym before the trek.

During a clear day (like we are supposed to have), one can see six California counties from the top (San Diego, Riverside, Imperial, San Bernardino, Orange, and Los Angeles). Individuals will be able to see Palomar Mt., 40 miles northwest (look for the white Hale Telescope). Hot Springs Mt., 26 miles to the north and so on. This is a truly great adventure, one that everyone should enjoy!

DAY PARKING FEE IS $8.00

Distance: 6 miles
Difficulty: Moderately Strenuous
Time: 3.5 hours (with breaks)

DIRECTIONS
Follow Highway 79, 11 miles south from Julian or 12 miles north from Interstate 8 at Descanso to reach Paso Picacho Campground. Pay the DAY-USE-FEE at the entrance and park in the picnic area just beyond
