Join Rabbi and Professor Shabatay in this interesting discussion at Ner Tamid Synagogue after our Sunday minyan (which starts at 9:15)! We take it for granted that the Torah (i.e. the Five Books of Moses) presents the essence of Judaism. But Nevi'im (Prophets, the term used for the Bible's second section) provides us with a similarly important collection of ideals. Beside the 15 books, written by individual prophets, it contains 6 mostly historical works that refer to many other prophets who spoke for the divine. One of them, Elijah, is still so popular that we sing his praise at the conclusion of every Shabbat and at each Passover seder we open the door for him hoping that he will lead the messiah to our home.
