Kahal Am, Humanistic Jewish Community is having its regular 3rd Saturday Shabbat program, January 17, 10:30 a.m. at the Encinitas Senior Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Drive, Encinitas, CA 92024. Madrikha Beverly Zarnow will speak on the topic of Jewish Philanthropy, a way to help improve the world. Giving charity and creating programs to help solve social problems has always been part of the Jewish culture. We will learn how some of the movers and shakers in the business of Jewish philanthropy use their money for the betterment of humankind. We'll discuss whether or not this is the most effective way to respond to the massive number of needy people in today's world. The program begins at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed by an oneg refreshment.
