Treating Jewish jokes as text, this 10 session course invites students to analyze and interpret the evolving concerns, styles, rhythms, preoccupations, and values of the Jewish people that lie buried deep in words that make us laugh as Jews, and that bond us as a people.
Dr. Ilana De Laney is the Director of Adult Jewish Education at the San Diego Center for Jewish Culture. Ilana is an innovative and passionate teacher and leader with diverse expertise, skills and educational background. She founded and developed organizations including the Bureau of Jewish Education, Kulanu High, the Adult Jewish Institute and the Teacher Learning Center in Stamford, CT. She received her B.A in World History and Education from Tel Aviv University, completed a Teacher Accreditation program, and went on to receive credentials in Early Childhood Education from UCLA. She also completed a Master's degree in Jewish Studies from the University of Judaism after which she continued studying at Nova Southeastern University where she received a doctorate in Organizational Leadership.
