EYE CONNECT - OUR GLOBAL JEWISH WORLD
Photo Exhibit Examines Jewish Life Throughout the World
LA JOLLA, February 20, 2017 –The Gotthelf Art Gallery, part of the San Diego Center for Jewish Cultures, located at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center, is proud to announce its new installation, “Eye Connect: Our Global Jewish World”--a photographic show featuring the work of artists near and far as they capture images of Jewish life around the globe.
Randy Savarese, Art Gallery Advisor, explains, “Jews are rather unique in world history. Over and over again, they have been refugees -- exiled, expelled and forced to flee their homes and make their way – often across deserts, oceans and continents -- to new countries. As Jews settled in foreign lands, they created what is known in history as the Jewish Diaspora which means ‘dispersion’ or ‘scattering.’ Today, Jews live in and have built communities in every corner of the world. This exhibit is a tribute to both Jewish identity and assimilation throughout the Diaspora.”
The show’s highlighted artist is San Francisco photographer, David Goldberg, who shares his immigrant family’s journey as they begin to integrate and settle into life and culture in America. Goldberg, along with the other nine artists featured in the exhibit, explores what is both common and unique to the Jews residing in represented countries.
The exhibition runs from March 1 to June 7, 2017. There will be a free Opening Night Reception on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 7:30 PM. All are welcome however reservations are requested by emailing: gallery@lfjcc.org
