For decades, Jewish Christian love stories have challenged or exalted the romantic ideal that love can transcend cultural or religious differences. Today, the cinematic trope of the unlikely Jewish-Christian couple has been supplanted by that of the Jewish-Muslim couple. Dr. Baron's lecture compares and contrasts four star-crossed lover plotlines to either affirm or discredit generalizations about the intractability of Israeli-Palestinian and Muslim-Jewish relations. The presentation will include clips from contemporary films including David and Fatima and Don't Mess with the Zohan.
