“It’s not easy these days to be a Humanistic Jew.” Rabbi Sherwin Wine, founder of the movement of Secular Humanistic Judaism, declared this more than twenty years after he formed the first SHJ community in Michigan in 1985. Today, fifty-one years later, is this statement still accurate? To answer that question, we must assert what we do believe and what value those beliefs hold for us. Our Annual Meeting will include a presentation and discussion on what it means to be a secular Humanistic Jew today. This program is a great opportunity for guests to find out more about Kahal Am and the SHJ movement. A potluck lunch will follow the program. There is parking and the clubhouse is handicap accessible. For directions see www.kahalam.org.
