Writer Nora Ephron has given the world characters that exhibit the pathos, satire, and joyfulness that is abundant in the works of Jewish literature. From popular films such as, “When Harry Met Sally” and “You’ve Got Mail”, to essays in Esquire and New York magazine, to books such as Heartburn, her works have become modern classics. Her literary work has a down-to-earth quality that puts the struggles, complications, and triumphs of people into meaningful view. That is why Nora Ephron was chosen as this year’s Humanistic Jewish Role Model for the Society for Humanistic Judaism. At the February Shabbat program, Madrikha Beverly will present a biography and sampling her works. Be prepared to laugh and cry as we enjoy the best of this prolific writer. An oneg refreshment will follow.
