Responding to Jewish Poverty

 

The San Diego Jewish community’s ability to address the needs of the Jewish poor is significantly limited due to the lack of community data, difficulty accessing and navigating resources, and a Jewish community that is not networked to support those struggling to make ends meet. 

Federation’s role in addressing Jewish Poverty is to convene our communities’ agencies and leaders to better understand our community and mitigate shortcomings in the services provided.  

COORDINATION

Increase coordination between Jewish and non-Jewish entities serving our community.

DUPLICATION

Map the different offerings to ensure that all efforts are maximized.

COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS

Focus on increasing community awareness of challenges and opportunities.

ORGANIZATIONAL COLLABORATION

Encourage organizations to work together on innovative solutions.

SUPPORT SENIORS AND SURVIVORS  ​
 

Lead efforts to aid Jewish Seniors and Holocaust Survivors through programs like the Holocaust Survivor Coalition and the annual Yom HaShoah commemoration.


 

GRANT MAKING

 

Provide local organizations and synagogues with the opportunity to apply for grant dollars to fund programs that address Jewish poverty.
