Pink Triangle Ceremony at RUTH: Remember Us The Holocaust Museum
06/25/2025

At the young age of 16, Christian Prager was arrested by the Nazi regime for his sexuality. He was marked by a Pink Triangle numbered 20266, a symbol used to identify men persecuted for their homosexuality.
Roughly 50,000 gay men were sentenced to brutal conditions, including hard labor and experimentation. Prager was among the further 10-15,000 men who were deported to concentration camps, wearing his Pink Triangle in Dachau and Buchenwald.
Tragically, like so many survivors, he died shortly after liberation almost certainly due to the conditions he suffered through the Holocaust.
Now, his Pink Triangle is joining the permanent collection of RUTH: Remember Us The Holocaust, where it will be on display at the La Jolla Library through June 2026.
Prager’s Pink Triangle will be graciously donated by The International Imperial Court Council led by Nicole Murray Ramirez, a renowned LGBTQ+ activist as well as a longtime advocate for the Jewish community in San Diego.
Nicole will ensure that the story of Christian Prager, and his legacy, will not fade into history and will instead shed light and empathy onto the persecution of homosexuals during the Shoah.
Be sure to attend the Lest We Forget Pink Triangle Artifact Transfer Ceremony on Sunday June 29, at 2:00pm at the RUTH: Remember Us The Holocaust exhibit in the La Jolla Riford Library.
While the Jewish people were the primary target of the Holocaust, the Shoah ensnared and affected many, including the LGBTQ+ communities of Europe, and we are proud to include their history alongside our own.
