Welcome Amy Mendelsohn

Amy MendelsohnWe are excited to announce our most recent hire, Amy Mendelsohn, Director, Community Planning.

Born in Los Angeles, Amy’s close-knit family has a strong Jewish background and identity. All four of Amy’s grandparents are Survivors, and they came to this country committed to offering their children and grandchildren rich Jewish experiences — and that’s precisely what they did. Thanks to their vision, Amy was deeply involved in her synagogue, youth group, and her beloved Jewish summer camp, Camp Ramah.  These experiences had a profound impact on Amy and served as the launchpad to her career as a Jewish communal professional.

Amy earned a dual master of arts degree in Communication Management from the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California, and Jewish Nonprofit Management from the Zelikow School of Jewish Nonprofit Management at Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of Religion. She also holds a dual bachelor of arts degree in Child and Adolescent Development and Modern Jewish Studies from California State University, Northridge.

Amy recently wrapped up her work as the Director of the Los Angeles Jewish Teen Initiative at Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles to relocate to San Diego where her fiancé, Jonathan Aires, a local San Diegan and National Young Leadership Cabinet member, resides.

In her new role, Amy will support Federation’s work caring for Jews in need and strengthening Jewish identity - two areas of great importance to her personally and professionally.

These days Amy spends her free time exploring San Diego with Jonathan,  catching up with friends and family via Zoom, enjoying at-home yoga, and baking challah in her new kitchen every Friday.
