UPDATE | Fire at Camp Mountain Chai

Below is update from Camp Mountain Chai Board Members Brian and Dawn Berson

6.26.15

Dear CMC Parents and Supporters,

As you know, we were hoping to be able to bring a group of volunteers up to our camp site in Barton Flats this weekend.  Although the camp is not in any danger, the fire is still spreading miles to the east. As such, the authorities need to keep the road closed for emergency vehicles only, so we are still unable to visit the camp with our remediation experts in order to figure out what needs to be done.  We are hoping to be able to get up to the site as soon as the authorities will allow it.  We will keep you posted as more information becomes available.

Thank you so much to all of the families who have reached out to us to offer your support!  We are so lucky to have such an amazing CMC family!

Dear Camp Parents and Supporters,

On behalf of the Board and Staff of Camp Mountain Chai, we would like to thank everyone for the generous outpouring of support and encouragement for CMC during this trying time.  Camp has begun at our adoptive home at Camp Scherman near Idyllwild, but we are anxious to return to our home in Barton Flats when it is safe to do so.  We have been in touch with the various fire agencies and are hoping to be able to return soon.

In order to make the camp safe and ready for the staff and campers to return, there will have to be a large clean up effort, and we could use your help.  Although we cannot choose a date until we have been given the all clear from the fire department, we may be able to gain access to camp as early this weekend.  We would appreciate any help from our camp parents and community members to come up to the camp to help us clean up, which will most likely consist of power washing the buildings, sweeping up ash and debris and assessing any additional needs.  The purpose of this email is to generate an interest list, and we will provide you with details of the clean up day as soon as we know when we will be allowed to return to the camp.  We are hoping to have a bus from the San Diego area to bring any volunteers to the camp.

For those of you who are unable to join us in Barton Flats, but would still like to help, a CMC Fire Relief Fund has been started through the Jewish Federation of San Diego County.  For more details or to make a donation, please visit https://jewishinsandiego.org/jewish-community-news/fire-at-camp-mountain-chai.

If you are interested in joining us for our clean up day or have further questions on how you can help, please email us at CMCfirerelief2015@campmountainchai.com.

Thank you again for your support!
