The City of San Diego's International Affairs Board last week formalized the first “Friendship City” relationship with the municipality of Sha’ar HaNegev, Israel.
This was made possible because of Federation's long lasting partnership with Sha’ar HaNegev, Israel and the fruitful collaboration between the two communities. Federation staff members Jane Fantel, Director of Israel Connections and Itamar Harari, Director of Community Initiatives, attended the special city meeting Thursday afternoon.
Itamar, who was born and raised in Sha’ar HaNegev, spoke at the meeting about the incredible opportunities this new level of relationship provides both communities, primarily in the areas of high-tech innovation through the new SouthUp high-tech incubator, which Federation supports in Sha’ar HaNegev. Additionally, farming technologies, educational, cultural, and scientific exchanges are also being planned.
