LJC visits New American’s Museum

The Latino-Jewish Coalition was honored to host their latest program at the New American’s Museum featuring the American debut of the exhibit Maletas Migrantes (Migrant Suitcases).  Continuing the theme of immigration/borders/journeys, everyone had the chance to hear both global and local stories of fleeing one’s homeland.

Two local women provided testimony which brought to life the tragic and painful experiences endured while fleeing to safety (one from Guatemala and one from Iran).

Co-curator Ignacio Vazquez Paravana, who combines art and activism and works with the Museum of Memory and Tolerance in Mexico City, explained the exhibit and its purpose.  He then joined with Linda Sotelo, Executive Director of the Museum, to escort participants through the exhibit. Participants engaged in meaningful discussion generated by the artwork.
