Meet the Women's Philanthropy Board: Silvana Christy

Each week we will be introducing you to one of our Federation Women's Philanthropy Board Members.

This week, we wish to introduce you to:

Silvana Christy

Silvana Christy has been active member of the San Diego community since moving here 37 years ago. She and her husband, Richard, joined Congregation Beth Israel shortly after their wedding and together with their son and daughter, have been loyal members and supporters of the Temple ever since.

Silvana's background in education led her to a career in teaching that included English as a second language, as well as elementary school at La Jolla Country Day School. When she wasn't teaching, Silvana was also responsible for helping create, grow and promote the school's the Athletic Booster Club.

Silvana understands the importance of always giving back to the Jewish community. As long term Women's Philanthropy Board member, she has focused her efforts on education and engagement. Over the years, she has also co-chaired many events including OPTIONS, the Pomegranate event and the Passover Seder Match. Hoping to make San Diego a more welcoming community for all, Silvana helped create and is co-chair of Federation's Shalom San Diego Initiative.

Silvana's focus on education has also led her to co-chair the JCC's Adult Jewish Education committee as well as Yom Limmud, a day of learning. She has been a long time member of the JCC's General board and recently joined the San Diego Center for Jewish Culture board.

Silvana is passionate about helping the community at large and does so by providing Canine therapy (together with Lucy, her loving Labrador) at Scripps Memorial Hospital, local schools, and colleges- hence the picture!
