Meet the Women's Philanthropy Board: Lisa Kornfeld

Each week we will be introducing you to one of our Federation Women's Philanthropy Board Members.

This week, we wish to introduce you to:

Lisa Kornfeld

Lisa Kornfeld grew up mostly in New Jersey, studied computer science and math at Virginia Tech, and moved to San Francisco in 1988.  Lisa converted to Judaism in 1990 before she married her husband, Gregg.  What appealed to Lisa most during her Judaic studies was the ethics and values of Judaism, particularly, Tikkun Olam and that it is an obligation of all Jews to take care of each other.  Lisa was involved for many years with Federation and Women’s Philanthropy in Marin County.

Lisa moved from the Bay Area to San Diego in 2008, and joined the Women’s Philanthropy board in 2011.  Lisa has seen the Federation’s work in action both here at home, and in Israel, on a San Diego Women’s Mission, and in Belarus and Israel on a campaigner’s mission.  Lisa’s responsibilities have included being on campaign cabinet, serving as Women’s Philanthropy Campaign Chair, serving as Lion of Judah Chair, and currently is a co-chair for OPTIONS 2017. Lisa also sits on the general Federation board, and is a member of the Jewish Women’s Foundation Council.  She also recently signed up to volunteer for Jewish Family Services Rides and Smiles service and is looking forward to providing this hands on service.

Lisa enjoys working with the warm, intelligent and dedicated women of the Women’s Philanthropy Board, and appreciates putting her values into action by contributing to the fantastic work that Jewish Federation is doing in our local San Diego community, in Israel and around the world.

Lisa has two children, Hannah, 23, who is currently pursuing a Musical Theater acting career in NYC, and Ian, 19, who is a freshman at Northeastern. She is excited to be an empty-nester although spends a lot of time visiting and figuring out when she can visit her children!
