Inspiring Teens to Give Back to Their Community

On Thursday, September 1, the Jewish Federation of San Diego County in partnership with the Jim Joseph Foundation and the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center officially launched our teen service learning collaboration, Motiv.

Motiv will serve as a hub for high school teen volunteer service. We will strive to pair teens with meaningful volunteer opportunities that speaks to their direct interests. Teens will be provided with a web platform to Find, Participate and Inspire other teens to take action for those in need. Their service will be tracked throughout their high school career and their impact will be displayed in a dynamic Service Dashboard. As a result of their dedication, teens may be connected to scholarships and awards based on their service. Please check out our new website at Our beta test for finding and logging volunteer projects will be available soon.

We are encouraged and inspired by the outpouring of community interest and support for engaging teens. Together, with the San Diego Jewish community, we will find new ways to support teens by connecting them to opportunities that speak to their multiple motivations.

It is through this platform that we will begin to understand issues and causes that resonate with teens and how Motiv might further teen passion in Working to Repair the World.

Many amazing organizations signed up to be ambassadors at the event, but we are always looking for more. If there are opportunities to connect Motiv or for us to support other teen service, please contact Darren Schwartz, Motiv Director at (858) 362.1338 or email

Thank you for your willingness to connect Motiv to schools, clubs, youth groups, service organizations and teens.
