Host an Israeli Teen in Your Home

Meet our new ShinShinim, Erez, Michal & Edan

The Jewish Federation of San Diego County is pleased to announce the return of the Shinshinim program!

The ShinShinim are high school graduates who were selected to participate in a Year of Service Program that offers Israeli teens an opportunity to share their youthful and enthusiastic Zionist spirits with the diaspora communities. The ShinShinim share their love and knowledge of Israel through various organizations in our community, synagogues, schools, and senior centers. They make Israel accessible, and help Jews develop a strong, meaningful attachment to Israel through tangible engagement, which cultivates Israel-Diaspora connections.

We are looking for families to help welcome our 2019 ShinShinim to San Diego. The Shinshinim stay with host families during their service year, forming close and often lifelong family friendships. Current host mom, Britney Ewing, shared, "There is no better way to connect with Israel than person to person. Hosting a ShinShin was a transformative and enriching experience for my family." Host families provide:

  • A separate bedroom
  • Meals
  • A welcome and inclusive home

To learn more, please join us on May 19, at 4pm, at the Lawrence Family JCC for an informational session. During the session, you will hear from past participants and current host families.

Connecting the next generation of Jews to Israel is crucial to ensuring a strong and bright future for the State of Israel and world Jewry. We look forward to another incredible year with our ShinShinim!
