Hope for Hanukkah

Inspired by Jewish values, Women’s Philanthropy broadens and deepens engagement in Jewish life to strengthen Jewish identity, foster dynamic connections with Israel, and care for all Jews in need.

As part of Federation’s commitment to caring for Jews in need everywhere, the Women’s Philanthropy Board adopted a Jewish family in need. Together with Helene Bortz, founder of the San Diego Community G’mach Gift Closet (G’mach is an acronym for Gemilut Chasadim, or deeds of loving kindness), Rachel Herman, chair of the Social Action Committee worked to fulfill the family's wish list. Upon delivering the wrapped gifts, Rachel shared, “I am blown away by the collective giving that happened for the family our Women’s Philanthropy Board embraced for Hanukkah. There are many challenges for this family, some we are aware of and others we can’t imagine, but these gifts helped bring so much joy into their lives.”

We are grateful to Rachel, Helene, and all of the dedicated leaders who bring light to our community each and every day.
