On Monday, Federation hosted Beneath the Helmet in partnership with FIDF and Thank Israeli Soldiers. More than 300 attendees – some making it a “date night” and some bringing their teens and pre-teen children – came to the auditorium at The Scripps Research Institute to see the film and experience a moving question & answer session afterwards.
Beneath the Helmet teaches us about the training process of young adults, who are transformed through the rigorous yet compassionate training process employed by the Israeli military. We follow the journey of three high school graduates as they undergo the most demanding journey of their lives. But, most interestingly, their equally young two training sergeants demonstrate how the Jewish values of peace, equality, opportunity, democracy, religious tolerance and women’s rights can help these young men learn important life lessons and become great leaders, soldier, and citizens of the world.
Federation wishes to thank The Mizel Family Foundation, Harold Frysch, Simon Vainer, and Ira Feinswog underwriting the evening and for making it possible for our community to learn more about the diverse young people who commit themselves whole-heartedly to protecting and defending Israel.
