Teen Travel To Israel

Gary and Jerri Ann Jacobs International Teen Leadership Institute (JITLI), Summer 2007)

Created in 2000, the Institute realizes the vision of its founders to create a program dedicated to the education and leadership development of young people in the context of interaction with other cultures.  The ultimate goal is to create a partnership between the communities of San Diego, Sha’ar HaNegev, Segev Shalom and Lakiya, JITLI aims to break down stereotypes and build lasting relationships leading to a vibrant and meaningful co-existence.

JITLI offers the opportunity for the participants to appreciate their similarities, acknowledge their differences and understand each other’s cultures.  JITLI impacts the lives of the young participants forever, imbuing them with the knowledge, the tools and the will to affect their own futures and those of their peers and communities.  This trip travels one week to San Diego, one week to Spain and the final week in Israel.  More information can be found at www.jitli.org.

Scott Stone San Diego Israel Teen Trip
June 24 - July 25, 2007

The Stone family has named this community-wide teen trip to Israel in memory of their son and brother Scott, who died in 1995 and was greatly impacted by his Israel experience.  Since its inception, over 200 San Diego teens, under the leadership of the Community Shaliach, have participated in this trip.  The journey to Prague and Israel, the daily interactions with Israeli teens from our partnership region, Sha’ar HaNegev and the incredible educational itinerary have had an indelible impact on its participants.  As noted before, the extensive pre and post-trip programs are integral to the success of the trip.  Download Application.

Israel Student Travel Scholarships  - The Israel Student Travel Scholarship Fund was established nine years ago to make the Israel experience a reality for every San Diego teen and young adult.  It is comprised of allocations from UJF as well as private donations.  The scholarship program has two components:  The general Scholarship Fund and Synagogue Partnerships (synagogues provide matching funds to promote youth Israel travel among their congregants).  These need-based scholarships have been awarded to hundreds of young people throughout the years.  Subsidies are available to affiliated and unaffiliated high school and college students for approved educational programs in Israel.  Applications are accepted in the Fall and in the Spring.  The Israel Scholarship Committee evaluates each application and awards scholarships based on established criteria.  Subsidies range from $100 - $1500 per student.  The Fall 2006 Scholarship submission period for Israel travel from January 1, 2007 to May 31, 2007 is now CLOSED.    Applications are now being accepted for Spring 2007 Scholarships (travel frm June 1, 2007 to December 31, 2007).  DEADLINE: April 6, 2007.
