JEWISH RESIDENT CAMP SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The United Jewish Federation Jewish Resident Camp Scholarship Fund has been established so that every JewishSanDiego youth may have the opportunity to join with their peers at a Jewish resident summer camp. UJF is proud to offer the Jewish Resident Camp Scholarship Fund to meet the needs of San Diego Jewish families who need financial assistance to send their children to a Jewish Resident Camp.

The United Jewish Federation Jewish Resident Camp Scholarship Fund was established to ensure that every Jewish youth in San Diego has the opportunity to join their peers at a Jewish resident (overnight) summer camp. UJF is proud to provide these scholarships to meet the needs of San Diego Jewish families who need financial assistance to send their children to a Jewish Resident Camp.

This year, we are pleased to inform you that the 2010 UJF Jewish Summer Resident Camp Scholarship Fund will distribute grants in the amount of $60,622.00 to provide “needs-based” summer camp scholarships for Jewish young people who live in San Diego County to attend a residential Jewish summer camp.

Unlike prior years, scholarships will be granted by the camps and all applications will be made directly to the camps. UJF will not accept applications, nor will we review the “needs-based” qualifications of applicants for scholarships. The amount of the scholarship grant will be determined by the camp, not by UJF.

Many San Diego County synagogues have matching summer camp scholarship funds. Scholarship recipients whose families are members of any San Diego County synagogue will be assisted by camps in obtaining matching grants where available. UJF will not provide additional synagogue matching funds over and above the funds granted to the camps. In order to qualify for funds from the 2010 UJF Jewish Summer Resident Camp Scholarship Fund families will choose a camp that complies with the following requirements:

    • The Camp must be an American Camping Association accredited camp in good standing and be listed by the Foundation for Jewish Camp.

    • The Camp must certify that its scholarship process takes into account the need for financial assistance and that it will use the funds only to provide scholarship assistance on a financial need basis.

    • The Camp will use the 2010 UJF Jewish Summer Resident Camp Scholarship Fund only to provide scholarships to Jewish campers with a permanent address in San Diego County.

    • The Camp will notify scholarship recipients that if his/her family are members of a synagogue in San Diego County they may be eligible for an additional grant from their synagogue’s camp scholarship fund; and will provide whatever information is necessary to that synagogue in a timely manner to enable the camper to obtain a matching grant, if possible.

The Foundation for Jewish Camping confirms that “the Jewish camping experience is unlike any other Jewish institution or educational program. It is the only fulltime, day and night living experience able to reach a broad number of kids at the most impressionable ages.” For additional information call us at 858.571.3444.
